Background

 Erik Solbu has a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and 20 years of experience with process development, plant operation and project management from the chemical-metallurgical industry. He has also worked as sales manager for an engineering company marketing plants for treating process gases and industrial wastewaters. The consulting company Erik Solbu AB was started in 1987.

  Elaboration of environmental action plans for the energy and mining sectors in Serbia. Training of environmental inspectors in Egypt. Institution building and environmental supervision of the mining, metallurgical and energy sectors in Kosovo. Market investigation for a new hydrometallurgical research centre in Sweden. Environmental assessments of industries in Bolivia. Quality control of smelting materials, Sweden. Assignments at non-ferrous smelters in Sweden, Turkey, Italy, Russia, Macedonia, South Africa and Bulgaria including environmental assessments, reduction of emissions, smelter gas cleaning, upgrading of sulphuric acid plants, introduction of cleaner technology and wastewater treatment. At one smelter modifications in smelter gas cleaning resulted in substantial improvements in sulphuric acid quality, especially concerning mercury content. Assignments for the mining industry in Sweden and Saudi Arabia. Treatment of flue gases from waste and fossil fuelled power plants. Study of Swedish waste incinerators in order to find the best way to meet the EU emission limit values for incineration plants. Process design of industrial wastewater treatment plants. Evaluation of methods for treating mercury waste and contaminated soil. Feasibility study made for UNIDO concerning local production of copper sulphate in Nigeria for use as cocoa fungicide. A particularly major task was leading an environmental assessment of a large industrial area in Egypt.
